The holiday season is upon us and as usual lessens the choices of great bands to see. But there is plenty there, it is just more of a refined menu than a smorgasbord buffet. So order up from this menu or ask us about our specials.
Flying in from a haunted cave near DC are All Them Witches backed by the excellent New Madrid. Catch the spell at the Black Cat this Wednesday, Dec 2nd.
Sheila E is still bringing the beat, this time to the Birchmere on Thursday, Dec 3rd.
Maribou State rolls into the U Street Music Hall on Friday, Dec 4th.
But if you want to dance just as hard as they do at U Street, check out Spirit Animal at the Jammin Java on Friday, Dec 4th.
Old Man Canyon will change the pace and mood at the Jammin Java on Saturday, Dec 5th.
One of my all-time favorites, Martin Barre, is touring the USA after his long, long career in Jethro Tull. This happens at the Jammin Java on Sunday, Dec 6th. Be there!
Car Seat Headrest was not invented for my first car, so this concept is still new to me as is this band. They hit the DC9 on Dec 7th.
DC is treated by a rare appearance by one of the secret formative punk bands in music history. This is the one and only Rocket from the Tombs. You really want to be at the Rock'n'Roll Hotel on Monday, Dec 7th for this and the always engaging local act, Boat Burning.
Ex Hex is still piping hot and plays the 9:30 Club on Thursday, Dec 10th with some great openers including Mac McCaughan and Ed Schrader's Music Beat.
Drew Gibson is not exactly jazz, nor exactly blues, but he has enough of that along with his folk to play the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club on Sunday, Dec 13th.
G Herbo floats into the Black Cat on Monday, Dec 14th and hey maybe there is plenty to do the early half of December!
